The
GeneralElection is
November 4, 2008. Early Voting Begins
October 18, 2008
Name:
Margaret Reinhardt
What
Office do you hold?
Secretary Trustee Sun Valley General
Improvement District
Educational
Background/Prior Government Experience:
I am presently serving as your
elected Trustee of the Sun Valley
General Improvement District (SVGID)
and I represent Sun Valley on
the Stakeholders Working Group
to study the Pyramid Hwy/US 395
connection.
Past
member Sun Valley Citizens Advisory
Board. Reno High; TMCC. Various
classes provided by the UNR including
boards and committees, Water Utility
Management, Completion of P.O.W.E.R.
Training modules I and II.
I personally contacted all parties
who might be affected when the
County proposed to widen 7th Ave.,
and worked to come up with an
alternate route.
I actively worked to preserve
the BMX track when its existence
was in jeopardy.
I attend governmental meetings
at the local and legislative level
which could effect our lifestyles.
Why
are you the best candidate for
this office?
I have the experience and I am
seeking a second term. The learning
curve for any Trustee is at least
one year and in these times, with
much at stake, experience does
count.
I am familiar with the recent
water legislation that has taken
place and I understand the pitfalls
that it could bring. I also know
the players in this political
battle.
I fully understand that every
dollar the district spends, the
rate payer (us) is paying the
bill for it. These are hectic
economic times and not the time
for the inexperienced. It serves
you, the customer, best, to return
experienced incumbents.
The
SVGID primarily serves as your
water and sanitation department.
We provide you with water and
sewer. We buy water from Truckee
Meadows Water Authority at wholesale
prices and we do our best to pass
the savings on to you. Just recently
we launched a study to determine
the feasibility of a solid waste
landfill. If this proves to be
a worthwhile project we hope to
be able to provide you with long-term
municipal waste disposal at stabilized
rates while maintaining local
control. The Washoe County Board
of Commissioners is your local
governing body and Washoe County
serves most of our governmental
needs. The Trustees that you elect
to the SVGID work closely with
Washoe County representing Sun
Valley on various boards and commissions.
I have lived in Sun Valley for
44 years and no one could possibly
care or love Sun Valley more than
I do. I am against growth that
does not pay for itself.
Reason
for seeking this elected public
office?
I first moved to Sun Valley in 1965.
I owned a 12x60 trailer. In 1968
I bought an empty piece of property
on 7th Ave. Together, Sun Valley
and I have grown. I still reside
on that piece of land but the 12x60
was replaced with a owner built
wood frame house.
I sincerely
care about the future of Sun Valley
and the wishes of its residents.
Fifteen years ago I was shocked
to find that our local officials
had given tentative approval to
put a freeway through the front
yards of all the residents of 7th
Ave. I was guilty of not being a
political watchdog. I can relate
to the person who is too busy just
keeping up with everyday life to
attend these meetings.
I stand
against any action to incorporate
Sun Valley or bring it under the
sphere of influence of either Reno
or Sparks. I also have concerns
that Sun Valley could at some point
in the near future become a grid
of freeways to support the growth
that is going on around us. We already
have a severe traffic problem on
Sun Valley Boulevard. Some of the
residential streets are being burdened
already with traffic that is coming
off 395 and the Spanish Springs
area. Sun Valley is not generating
this traffic.
The
Sun Valley Citizens Advisory
Board meets 9:00 AM the
Second Saturday of each
month, 115 West 6th Ave-at
the Sun Valley Neighborhood
center (behind the pool
and next to the post office).
The
Sun Valley General Improvement
District meets the 2nd and
4th Tuesday of every month
at 6:00 PM. 5000 Sun Valley
Blvd.
The
Sun Valley Landowners and
Residents Association meets
the 1st and 3rd Wednesday
at 6:00 PM of every month.
5360 Sun Valley Blvd. The
Sun Valley Landowners building
was constructed in 1944
on land given by the Gepford
Family. From 1975 until
2005, Washoe County leased
the building to house the
Sun Valley Senior Center.
The building continues to
be run by a board which
oversees the Food Pantry.
The Association holds events
such as bingo and has the
hall available for party
rentals and flea markets.

What
will be the focus of your term?
To work to insure that Sun Valley
residents
get the best possible water rates
and amenities for (their) our dollars.
I am focused on keeping Sun Valley
free from the Reno or Sparks sphere
of influence.
What
would you say to the community of
Sun Valley?
"I believe that I can truly
identify with all of you. Through
the 40+ years I have lived out here
I am sure that at some time I was
"in your shoes".
What
is your favorite book?
Illusions by Richard Bach.
